Your Air Conditioner Needs Some Space!
Decatur, GA Air Conditioning Repair
On a recent service call in Decatur our service technician Keith Lumpkin noticed the unit next door and just had to take a picture of it. This unit is almost completely covered by ivy.
Air conditioning works by moving heat from one place to another. Heat is picked up from the inside by moving air over the evaporator coils and discharged to the outside by moving air over the condenser coil. ANYTHING that gets in the way of all this air moving will cause problems with your system – reducing capacity, cutting the efficiency and, in more extreme cases, causing some every expensive damage.
For your air conditioner to work efficiently and dependably, the area around the outdoor condenser must be kept free and clear. Two or three feet of clear area is best. While we’re talking about the outdoor unit it’s also best to have the area above open. Many units are located under decks or other obstructions. If the hot air being discharged is being “recycled” back into the unit, it’s costing you extra bucks to run that unit!
